Yongliang Chen and Yajing Cui of Superconductivity and New Energy R&D Center went to Italy to attend the 11th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity (EUCAS 2013) on September 15th to 19th, 2013.

EUCAS is the European Conference on Applied Superconductivity, that takes place every two years in a different European venue, attracts scientists working in the field of superconductivity and industrial researchers dealing with the industrial applications, coming from all over the world.

EUCAS is principally aimed at bringing out the most recent scientific developments in the investigation of superconducting materials, and at fostering discussion on new potential applications of superconductivity and on technology transfer to industry. In fact, while in the early editions EUCAS was thought primarily as a European forum, with time, the event has gradually opened up to a wider participation, international in character, with a growing presence of attendees from Asian countries, mainly Japan, China and Korea, and from the United States. EUCAS is therefore a prestigious event from both the scientific and technological point of view, because it hosts the presentation of products, services, techniques and know-how, which are innovative and highly relevant to the advancement of scientific research and industrial productivity in the superconductivity field.

The present edition involved more than a thousand scientists from nearly 40 different countries. Many leader researchers reported their study progress on superconductivity. Some friends have also presented in this conference, including Prof. Harald W. Weber ( a member of the royal institute of physics and has visited our school twice), Tengming Shen ( working in the “Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory” and had been a student of our center) and other researchers from China. There were poster sessions in every afternoon of the four days’ meeting. The contents involved applied superconductors, iron-based superconductors, coated conductors, superconducting cables, et al.

The next EUCAS will take place in Lyon, France on September 6th to 10th, 2015.
