Prof.Dr. Zhao Yong,Ph. D supervisor.

Prof. Zhao is a distinguished scientist and Chair Professor ofSouthwestJiaotongUniversity. He is the director of Superconductivity and New Energy R&D Center. He has been awarded as Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor and was supported the first National Outstanding Youth Science Fund (with foreign nationality) ofChinain 2005.

Prof. Zhao received his Ph. D. inSuperconducting Physics in 1988 atUniversityofScienceand Technology of China. He is the first student who obtains doctor degree in the field of high-temperature superconductivity inChina. He has been active in this field thereafter, working for almost 30 years on the fundamental research and application of superconducting materials, and accomplished remarkable achievements in investigations on chemical doping and microstructure control for superconducting materials, as well as in studies in the magnetic flux pinning mechanism and development of preparation technologies for new superconducting materials.

Especially, Prof. Zhao built physical model for the nanoscale magnetic flux pinning mechanism andelectrical, magnetic, thermal dynamic coupling theory in high-temperature superconductor, illuminated the influence of grain boundary on current-carrying capability in high-temperature oxide superconductor and developed the technology for repairing the grain boundary to improve the superconducting performance and epitaxial growth method of a series of new coating conductor buffer layers, synthesized for the first time Ir-doped SmFeAsO system as a new superconductor. These achivements more or less break the technological monopoly by foreign countries in terms of HTS coated conductor buffer layer materials.

Prof. Zhao has published more than 300 papers in the first-class academic journals and conferences (more than 150 indexed by SCI) which are cited more than 3000 times. Some of his achievements have been featured as special reports in “MRS BULLETIN” and “ACS Chem”. He has presented over 20 invited lectures at international symposia, workshops, colloquia and been chairman/branch chairman for more than 20 times. He obtained 1 U.S. patent, 1 European patent, 2 Japanese patents, 32 Chinese invention patents and applied for more than 20 Chinese invention patents.
