July 26 to 27, the seminar
of national magnetic confinement fusion energy project (ITER) “Research of
advanced high-field magnets and their low temperature properties” was held in
our school. The seminar was organized by superconductivity and new energy
research and development center.
Honorable guests and experts attending the conference are: Vice
president of SWJTU Wengui Zhang; Vice president and Researcher of Southwest
institute of nuclear physics Xuru Duan and Yong Liu; Chief Scientist of 2011
ITER project Laifeng Li; Director of China Electrotechnical Commission Lijian Ding; Director of superconductivity and new energy R&D
center(SWJTU) Yong Zhao; Researcher of Chinese Academy of Science Qiuliang
Wang; Professor of Beijing Science&Technology University Farong Wan;
Researcher of Chinese Academy of Science Yuntao Song; Professor of Sichuan
University Zu An and 40 other experts. The conference was hosted by Yong Zhao,
Qiuliang Wang and Yuntao Song respectively.
Vice president of school, Wengui Zhang introduced the general conditions
of Southwest Jiaotong University
and expressed sincere thanks to the care and support from Ministry of Science, NSFC and related experts and universities. He also looked forword to the
successfully accomplishment of the project by the holding of this conference.
The chief
scientist and researcher of the project
Laifeng Lee as well as other collaborative research units gave presentations
about the progress and achievements respectively. Experts from various fields
actively discussed the contents, goals and prospects about the presentations
after carefully listenning to the reporters.

Electrotechnical Commission from National
Natural Science Foundation introduced the application situation of ITER project in recent years and encouraged the participants to apply the ITER foundation project
so that promoting the magnetic confinement related technologies.
After the meeting, all the seminar members visited the labs of superconductivity center and spoke highly of the scientific and technological achievements made by superconductivity R&D center in the past decade.
